The Sony A6500 is out, with features never seen on a compact camera

Never before have we seen a compact camera capable of technology and features of such a high level as the Sony A6500 which was officially launched today unannounced. 4K video, 5-axis stabilization, new image processor and a incredibly fast focus system. All of this in a surprising and extremely small camera.

Sony A6500

Earlier this year Sony introduced the A6300, a camera that arrived as part of the A6000 family, improving on the latter, though not simply as a successor, but as a different higher level camera. In the same vein comes the Sony A6500. A better camera than the Sony A6300 capable of getting better results, with very similar design. In fact, it seems that the objective of the Japanese company was to integrate better technologies into a camera with the same size and concept.

Sony A6500

Sony A6500 comes with a handful of features that make it impossible for us to remain indifferent. Its design is similar, it’s a camera with electronic viewfinder and E-mount, but the new features included are striking.

Canon EOS M5: Like a SLR, without being SLR

You don’t need much imagination to assume today’s not a great day in the offices of Sony, Panasonic, Fujifilm or Olympus. “What we feared finally happened”, they must say while drinking the third cup of coffee of the morning. And it’s only 9:00.

That dramatization may be a little excessive, among other things because most of them are probably already thinking about Photokina and their own innovations, with no time to be gossiping about others. But exaggerations aside, the truth is that the new Canon EOS M5 is the thing that many expected while others feared for a long time. No more nonsense: Canon is serious about mirrorless cameras.

"Like an EOS 80D, but 55% its size", commented Canon spokesman a few days ago when it was first shown to the press. Very unlike the EOS M and M2 that no one took very seriously and the EOS M3, that barely began to distinguish itself. Sure enough, the 1,000 dollars that this new model costs leave little room for laughter.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, the evolution of the saga

Update august 19, 2016

Given that the sensor of the new Canon 5D Mark IV will use the Dual Pixel technology (each pixel is double, one of normal size and one smaller), it seems that the camera will have the option of photograph in a new format denominated DPRAW. After, the developing application of the Raws Digital Photo Professional will be able of carry out some special functions with the information provided by the two pixels.

Of the 61 focus points, 41 will be cross type (like the MkIII model) but probably all or almost all will be working with lens of a maximum brightness of f/8. On top of that it has been said that finally the 5D-IV will incorporate the EOS iTR Af system of the EOS 1DX.

August 17, 2016

If the rumors that run in the Internet are true, the Canon 5D Mark IV camera it’s already around the corner. Its official presentation is due to the end of the month.

It has been four years and a half since the 5D Mark III was presented in society (March 2012) and since then it has become one of the most used cameras by photographers and professionals of several disciplines, among them, the nature or/and travel photographers. If we look today to the ranking of cameras used in contests such as the World Press Photo or the Wildlife Photographer of the Year we will find that the 5D Mark III is one of the most used. Its secret? Well none in specific: a very well balanced camera in performance, size and price. In my opinion is a tool that is pleasant to work with, that never had given me any technical problems in four years of use and that has endured wonderfully all the heavy use around the world. Is a camera of those that you end up loving, I think that even if it disappears from the market, the 5D MkIII will remain for years as a wonderfully choice for the photographers.

Dynamic range on the Canon EOS 80D the student is progressing well but still needs improvement.

Since I am at minimum services, I had not realized, but a comment from Guillermo has drawn my attention to the analysis of dynamic range that Dpreview has performed on the new Canon EOS 80D and the results, as you will see in the screenshot that I’m adding below, despite not being amazing, at least they are encouraging.

The method is always the same, the ISO invariance, and if you click the link you will see that by default the EOS 80D and 70D were selected, lifting the shadows +5 EV and + 6EV. I preferred to change it up and put the 80D against the 70D, with the Nikon D7200, and I also wanted to put the Sony Alpha 6300 but I couldn’t find it, so I put the tiny Sony RX100 IV, which is already unfair because it has a tiny 1" sensor, substantially smaller than the APS-C size of all others. In all cases I have raised the shadows +5 EV, which is fine.

Best Compact Camera 2016 that will make you forget your DSLR

It is undeniable that the business of compact cameras is in decline. After the arrival of smartphones, these camera types began to be worthless, since their functions could be perfectly fulfilled with another gadget that you can always carry in your pocket.

Thus, camera sales began to plummet. It doesn’t make sense to buy a 100 dollars device for taking photos, as our smartphone could fulfill this very same function in a way that is even more satisfying. Besides being more convenient, in some cases it offers more quality.

Review: Olympus Stylus SH-1

In principle, comparing a $199 camera with a toy is something that doesn’t sound too good, but it turns out that this is the perfect comparison to define such a creative compact and easy to handle camera, such as the Olympus Stylus SH1.

Olympus Stylus SH-1

Small and with a very attractive design, it is able to deal with almost any situation and, most importantly, to make you enjoy it from the first shot no matter what your photographer skills are. Its quality may not be as high-end as the other large compact camera but as a pocket all purposes camera it is an excellent option, due its tremendous 25-600 mm lens, and a great overall performance.

Best Cheap Digital Camera under 200 Dollars 2015

Although it seems incredible, the amount of super digital cameras under $200 is a lot. Yes, now it is not necessary to find a digital camera on discount to stay within your budget. We live in a technological era where cool gadgets age in a few months time. You won’t have trouble finding a range of affordable camera products, but can be complicated to choose the appropriate one. It is advisable to look around a little and do some research before buying anything, since you can only regret the purchase of the first camera you find. At first they seem all the same, but in terms of what they can do, is a completely different story. Sure, everyone is taking pictures, but without doing a bit of walking, that could end up with a digital camera that takes blurry photos of your honeymoon.

You would be even more wrong to think that by selecting a good brand will ensure a great camera. In a highly competitive market, it is not easy to choose the best brand. It is not easy to choose a camera between as many popular creators, Nikon, Canon, Fuji and Kodak. Since all these brands that they compete with each other, there are a lot of good digital cameras for less than $200 to choose from, so why limit yourself at the time to decide what to do?

Best Camera under 1000 Dollars 2014

When you are passionate about photography, you just aren’t happy with the compact camera that you inherited from our parents or older siblings, or the first one that you purchased. It is time to choose a better model, but without going broke. So we’ll help you find the best cameras that you can buy for less than 1000 dollars.

As they always say, and it is completely true, the camera does not make us better photographers, but it helps us get better technical quality. And you can’t forget that the camera alone does not work. You need a good lens, and that should be a key factor included in the final cost of what you can afford.

In general, when you buy a Reflex or CSC camera, they come in a kit. It is the cheapest option, but it is never the best. The lens is usually low to mid-range and they’re usually unable to take full advantage of the sensor. If the budget is fair, it is always recommended to buy a cheap camera with an expensive lens. The end result will always be better.

iPhone 6 vs iPhone 5s vs LG G3. First camera comparative?

Users with the new iPhone 6 in their hands continue to reveal data from the device’s, and if some hours ago we could see the results of the first benchmark, now it is the turn of the back camera with a photograph taken in complicated lighting conditions. It is a typical night scene with many contrasting zones that manage to make even the best sensors in the market, cringe. How does iPhone 6 fares against this situation?

If we trust in the veracity of this image, and that we cannot see in bigger resolution, the iPhone 6 shows an evident improvement in image quality when compared against iPhone 5S. Its sensor appears way more luminous and the new optic stabilization system will help improve the results attained with the back camera.

The world’s weirdest professional camera

On the inside, it integrates a unique sensor – no other camera of any other brand has it. On the outside, words are unnecessary. The Sigma dp2 Quattro is authentically weird no matter from where you look at it.

Sigma is one of the brands with more tradition and prestige en the world of photography, up to the level of brands like Canon, Nikon or Fujifilm, which have various decades more of experience. Even if Sigma is highly known on the image realm because of its lenses (and also interesting flashes) that are compatible with other brand’s mountings, they have always had a camera line – with a really reduced model catalog, but all of them with a certain aura of desired object coveted by advanced and professional users around the world-. Mastering all of its potential has been a challenge for many. Sigma cameras have always been… different, and their last proposal has multiplied this.
