Canon has just released their smallest digital SLR camera, the Rebel SL1, in white. Both versions, black and white, have a body made of aluminum and polycarbonate resin with carbon fiber and glass. That makes it light ad resistant. The camera weighs just about a pound and takes up very little space. The white version features the Canon EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM zoom, providing great versatility no matter what kind of picture you have to take. The Canon Rebel SL1 has been designed with rookies in mind. It’s very intuitive and easy to use and offers lots of automatic modes. You can take any picture in low light conditions, thanks to the high sensitivity of 12800 ISO.
It features an APS-C CMOS sensor with a size of 22.3 x 14.9 mm with primary color filter and an aspect ratio of 3:2, while the image processor is a DIGIC 5. Its burst mode can reach speeds of 4 fps, enough to take 7 RAW images and 28 images in JPEG. It can record Full HD video (1080p) and offers various creative effects, like a function to capture video and pictures simultaneously. It supports SD, SDHC or SDXC (UHS-I) memory cards. It can save photos in RAW and JPEG. Videos are saved in MOV format (H.264 with Linear PCM sound) and can have a maximum file size of 4 GB and a maximum length of 29 minutes and 59 seconds. It features a mini HDMI output connector and an external microphone connector. It also has a USB 2.0 port which includes an analog video output. It also has an integrated flash, which takes three seconds to recharge, but you can add an external one too. You can print images directly (no computer needed) with one of the compatible PictBridge printers.
The zoom lens Canon EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM incorporates an optical image stabilizer and manual focus ring. It can work at a minimum focusing distance of 0.25 meters and its STM engine is very quiet while recording video. Along with the battery, it weighs 410 grams. Its size: 116.8 x 90.7 x 69.4 mm. The Canon Rebel SL1 costs 620 Euros (the camera only), and the bundle with the Canon Rebel SL1 plus Canon EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS costs 719 Euros. The black version costs the same.
