Nikon recently introduced a new DX lens which is ideal for traveling and for professional and advanced photographers. This is the Nikkor DX 16-80 mm F/2.8-4, which is designed with the latest technology in mind, in order to provide a good performance, as well as its compact format, which facilitates both its handling and portability.
From a technical point of view, this Nikon lens has no problems to take shots of panoramic landscapes, or to take shots of intimate portraits through its focal range of 16-80 mm, which covers virtually all shooting situations a photographer has before it. Its 5X zoom covers the equivalent to 24-120 mm on a full frame format.
The lens has a bright aperture of f/2.8-4, which offers a good quality, even in low light, and incorporates the four step Vibration Reduction system from Nikon that makes the pictures look sharper, though it employs slow shutter speeds.
The operation of the VR system is quiet and has two modes, one for normal shooting and one for active shots, besides having automatic tripod detection. There’s also the compact Silent Wave Engine for a fast, quiet and accurate autofocus throughout the zoom range.
Following on technology, this lens is also notable for its electromagnetic diaphragm, which provides more accurate exposure, especially at higher frame rates, and its protective fluoride coating that repels water and dirt and facilitates the cleaning of the glass without damaging it. Besides, DX is the first lens that includes the Nano Crystal Coating from Nikon.
This Nikon lens weighs only 480 grams, allowing it to equilibrate well with the camera.
